Arutz Sheva (Israel s national news) reported 25 May 2014: Today (Sunday) Israel’s Legislative Cabinet will deliberate a proposal made by MK Ofer Shelah (Yesh Atid) (see earlier website publication), according to which doctors would be able to help terminally ill patients end their own lives. If finally approved in the Knesset, a terminally ill patient desiring euthanasia would be required to state his intents twice two weeks apart, in the presence of two witnesses. The Bill is based on the so called Oregon Death with Dignity Act almost word by word. The Legislative Cabinet is a committee consisting of ministers of all the coalition parties, some of them are strongly opposed to the proposed law and have threatened to veto it.
Normally now it should be processed by a special Health and Welfare Committee of the Knesset, and then be put before the Knesset for approval.
