Restoring territory rights on assisted dying again a step closer

On Monday July 25, the caucus of the Australian Labor party met to determine the government’s priority pieces of legislation which will be introduced as the 47th parliament officially opens. Among them is a private member’s Bill to overturn the ban on the ACT and NT legislating on matters such as assisted dying. This bill will be introduced to federal parliament on August 1.

The Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories (Labor) already said in June that she would work with the cross bench to repeal laws that prevent the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory from legalising VAD.
