Outros\, só o suicídio assistido. Há também aqueles em que as duas práticas acontecem. Em algumas nações\, só um número específico de estados autoriza uma ou alguma destas práticas. \nApenas a Suíça aceita receber estrangeiros para a morte assistida\, na modalidade de suicídio assistido. É\, portanto\, um país destino do chamado “turismo do direito de morrer” – a expressão “turismo de direitos” é usada quando uma pessoa se desloca da sua nação de origem em busca de algo que não é garantido em sua terra natal. \nExistem\, ainda\, seis países em vias de legalizar este direito. Com a Eu Decido\, o Brasil entra agora na lista dos que caminham rumo a este avanço – inclusive somos integrantes da World Federation Right to Die Societies. \nO QUE É A EU DECIDO \nA Eu Decido é uma associação civil sem fins lucrativos recém-criada no Brasil para lutar pelo direito à morte assistida no país. \nA Eu Decido acredita na autodeterminação e no direito de cada indivíduo de tomar decisões autônomas e independentes sobre sua própria vida — incluindo como e quando ela deve terminar. \nO QUE QUER A EU DECIDO \nA Eu Decido defende o direito à morte assistida de qualquer pessoa maior de 18 (dezoito) anos\, capaz para os atos da vida civil\, competente para tomar decisões de modo consciente e independente\, que esteja sofrendo de modo que considere insuportável\, por conta de (1) doença terminal e/ou incurável\, (2) incapacitação grave e/ou irreversível\, ou (3) padecimento decorrente de envelhecimento avançado. \nA Eu Decido se propõe a atuar para que a morte assistida seja reconhecida como um direito no Brasil e esteja disponível para todos os que a escolherem.  \nA Eu Decido trabalha para fomentar e informar esse debate na sociedade brasileira\, e para termos no país uma legislação mais humana e compassiva sobre o tema. \nQUEM FAZ PARTE DA EU DECIDO \nA Eu Decido é formada por mais de 100 médicos\, advogados\, psicólogos\, jornalistas e artistas como Andreas Kisser\, guitarrista da banda Sepultura e fundador do Movimento Mãetrícia e do Festival Patfest. \nLuciana Dadalto\, presidente da Eu Decido\, é bioeticista e pesquisadora de temas relacionados à autonomia e dignidade no fim da vida. Adriano lançou em 2025 “O Dia em que Eva Decidiu Morrer – Uma Reflexão sobre Autodeterminação e Direitos de Fim de Vida”\, livro-reportagem que revela\, pela primeira vez\, a jornada completa de uma brasileira que viajou à Suíça para exercer seu direito de morrer dignamente.  \nALGUNS CONCEITOS FUNDAMENTAIS PARA A EU DECIDO \nA Eu Decido acredita que a vida é um direito\, e não um dever. \nA Eu Decido acredita que a morte faz parte da vida e reconhece a importância de conversar a respeito desse estágio natural da existência. Esse momento único e particular deve ser vivido conforme desejos e crenças de cada um\, com ampla liberdade e autonomia. \nA Eu Decido acredita que morrer com dignidade é um direito humano fundamental e que ninguém deve ser obrigado a viver com um sofrimento que considera ser insuportável. E para a Eu Decido\, somente a própria pessoa pode definir o que considera ser um sofrimento insuportável. \nA Eu Decido defende que toda pessoa tem o direito de morrer com dignidade. E que o exercício deste direito pode se dar de quatro formas – não excludentes entre si: \n– Recusa terapêutica \n– Acesso aos cuidados paliativos \n– Morte assistida \n– Não iniciação ou suspensão de tratamentos que tenham o objetivo de prolongar o processo de morte \nA Eu Decido não encoraja o suicídio.  \nA Eu Decido não fornece meios para a morte assistida\, não auxilia nesse procedimento e nem intermedeia tratativas com organizações internacionais. \nO MOVIMENTO MUNDIAL PELO DIREITO À MORTE DIGNA \nHoje existem 17 países em que a morte assistida é permitida\, com diferentes legislações – entre eles\, Canadá\, Holanda\, Suíça\, Espanha\, Portugal\, Nova Zelândia e 13 estados americanos\, além de Washington D.C. Existem outros seis países em debates avançados: França\, Inglaterra\, País de Gales\, Escócia\, Cuba e Peru. No Uruguai\, a lei entrou em vigor recentemente. Há ainda\, países em que a morte assistida foi regulamentada a partir de decisões da corte constitucional\, dentre eles a Colômbia – que\, em matéria de morte digna é uma das mais avançadas da América Latina. \nO movimento mundial right-to-die tem mais de 80 organizações atuando em mais de 30 países. SUMMARY:The Role of Ethics in Long-Term Specialist Palliative Care
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\n\n\nExplore how ethics and palliative care guide decision-making in long-term care through real cases and practical frameworks.\n\n\n\nTitle: The Role of Ethics in Long-Term Care: Specialist Palliative Care in a Changing Landscape of Resident Needs \nAbstract: \nLong-term care (LTC) homes increasingly serve as the final residence for frail older adults living with chronic\, life-limiting illnesses. Yet these settings remain under-resourced for both palliative care and ethics consultation. This seminar\, co-led by faculty in palliative care and bioethics\, explores how ethical reasoning and palliative care practice intersect in the LTC context and their role in providing quality patient care. \nDrawing on recent clinical cases\, we will examine common ethical challenges in the delivery of palliative care in LTC\, specifically related to advance care planning and code status discussions. Through case-based discussion\, we will illustrate how values-based frameworks can foster collaborative and compassionate decision-making among residents\, substitute decision makers\, and care teams. \nParticipants will gain insight into how ethics consultation can enhance palliative approaches to care in LTC\, the impact of systemic inequities and resource limitations\, and practical strategies for bridging the gap between acute care and LTC settings. \nPresenters: \nKaren Faith BSW\, MEd\, MSc. Bioethicist (retired) \nKaren Faith completed an MHSc in Bioethics through the Institute of Health Sciences and the Joint Centre for Bioethics following a 22 year career in social work. After completing a Clinical Ethics Fellowship\, she joined Sunnybrook Health Science Centre taking a lead role in developing their ethics program. While on staff\, Karen contributed to the JCB’s ‘Ethical Framework for Pandemic Planning’ as well as the ‘Clinical Ethics Summer Institute’. Upon leaving Sunnybrook\, Karen devoted her consultation and ethics education skills in support of community-based health care that included an education role with the Ontario College of Family Physicians on-line communities of practice. \nKaren was instrumental in the early development of MAiDHouse where she served as Vice-Chair of the Board. She continues as a Tutorial Facilitator for The Temerty Faculty of Medicine ethics program\, and remains committed to promoting compassionate quality end of life care. \nZahra Hasan\, MHSC\, BSc \nEthicist\, North York General\, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre \nZahra Hasan is an Ethicist at North York General Hospital in partnership with the Health Ethics Alliance at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. She holds a Master of Health Sciences in Bioethics degree from the University of Toronto and the Joint Centre for Bioethics\, and an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo. He currently serves as Medical Director of the Specialist Palliative Care in Long-Term Care Outreach Team at Kensington Health\, providing specialized palliative care services at Kensington Gardens and supporting long-term care homes across the region. Previously\, he was Medical Lead of the North York Congregate Access and Support Team (NY CAST)\, where he led the development of an innovative interprofessional model of care that improved outcomes for long-term care residents and strengthened staff capacity. \nA passionate advocate for equity\, diversity\, and inclusion\, Dr. Arya has co-developed widely used provincial education initiatives focused on cultural humility\, belonging\, and quality improvement in palliative care\, in partnership with Ontario CLRI and Pallium Canada. DESCRIPTION:Representative democracy\, built on national frameworks and the pursuit of immediate electoral consensus\, can no longer address the major challenges of our time — wars\, failure to act on climate change\, technological revolution\, social fractures — which instead require cross-border and long-term responses. \nEuropean political leaders raise their voices to exploit popular anger for electoral purposes\, feeding nationalist illusions. This is weakening Europe\, while strengthening authoritarian powers and transnational economic oligarchies. \nThis vicious circle must be broken by bringing citizens back to the heart of politics. Democracy is not just “elections”; it also means informed participation in public decision-making. \nThe goal of Eumans — a pan-European movement for popular initiative — is to restart democracy by directly involving people beyond national borders\, both at European and local level. We aim to activate and technologically strengthen participatory tools such as referendums\, citizens’ initiatives and randomly selected citizens’ assemblies. \n  \nAfter Warsaw\, Gdańsk and Brussels\, the fourth Eumans Congress is being held in Paris\, in a country where the paralysis of representative democracy has led to an unprecedented institutional credibility crisis. At the same time\, France is home to civic initiatives\, including local ones\, that could turn the country into a laboratory for democratic innovation and citizen participation. \nFor Eumans\, restarting democracy in Europe is not an end in itself: it is essential to stop the continent’s decline and deliver effective answers to improve people’s quality of life and the health of our ecosystem. \n  \nDuring the Congress\, we will build on the campaigns we have been working on in recent months: for European systems of civic artificial intelligence; for the defence of the International Criminal Court; for human rights and civil liberties; for safe abortion (with the European Citizens’ Initiative “My Voice My Choice”) and for legal euthanasia (currently under discussion in the French Parliament); for a global taxation system on emissions and resource consumption; for ending subsidies to factory farming and against polar bear hunting.

DESCRIPTION:Right to Die News from the Hemlock Society of San Diego \nPresented by law professor Thaddeus Pope\, this session explores the complex intersection of law\, ethics\, and autonomy at the end of life. While current medical advances help us live longer\, they often fail to ensure a life of sufficient quality and dignity\, especially for those facing Alzheimer’s or other dementias. This presentation examines four well-established end-of-life choices as well as five emerging choices. It also examines three theoretical options that push the boundaries of what may one day be legally possible in the U.S. Some of these ideas challenge public comfort and policy. But all are grounded in compassion\, reason\, and respect for personal choice. Join us for an informed and courageous discussion about how we might expand right-to-die options for older Americans in the years ahead.
