Faith Sommerfield, founder of the Completed Life Initiative, died

On September 27, 2022, Faith Sommerfield, Founder of the Completed Life Initiative, died peacefully at the age of 82 in Basel, Switzerland. 

Having witnessed terrible deaths during her childhood, Faith believed acute suffering at the end of life contradicted God’s plan. This belief led her to become an inaugural member of the Hemlock Society. Her desire to find solutions for relieving human suffering while honoring personal dignity resided at the core of what she deemed a life well-lived. We extend our deepest condolences to Faith’s family and loved ones. The Completed Life Initiative owes its existence and mission to Faith’s extraordinary vision and perseverance, and will forever honor her contribution to our cause.
