On March 1, the Patient-Directed Care 2020 Annual report was reported to the Maine Legislature.
In 2020 fifty terminally ill individuals obtained MAID prescriptions. That is consistent with numbers in other states. For example, nearly 300 individuals obtained prescriptions in Washington which is six times more populous than Maine.
But 2020 is only Maine’s second year having MAID. Projecting from year two in other states (like California), one might have expected fewer than 20 Maine prescriptions rather than 50. So, it is notable that Maine has usage levels comparable to states where MAID has been available for much longer.
