Netherlands: former Prime Minister and his wife die by euthanasia

Former Dutch Prime Minister Dries van Agt and his wife – both 93 years – died by euthanasia according to The Rights Forum, a human rights organization he founded to seek a just solution in Palestine. As leader of the right-wing Liberal Party (CDA), Van Agt governed the Netherlands from 1977 to 1981. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte said, “With his flowery and unique language, his clear convictions and his striking presentation, Dries van Agt gave color and substance to Dutch politics in a time of polarization and party renewal.”
