VAD bill passed NSW parliament and became law

Today, the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 has passed the parliament of New South Wales. The Lower House voted the Bill into law after the Upper House also approved the Bill with just a handful of amendments. Now all Australian states have Voluntary Assisted Dying laws.

The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill passed the NSW Upper House after a marathon debate in the NSW Upper House last night.  The final vote took place in the Upper House this morning with a majority of 23 to 15 votes. It was then rushed down to the Lower House where it was quickly ratified.

The law will come into effect in 18 months time.
