Special Event – Prof Felicia Huppert’s VAD Journey Webinar on Wed 9 April at 5pm

We have a very special event for the first of our EOL webinars for 2025.

Professor Felicia Huppert was a pioneering psychologist, world renowned for her work on wellbeing and positive psychology. After her suffering from metastatic breast cancer became unbearable in August 2024, she chose to die peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Sydney using the NSW voluntary assisted dying (VAD) laws.

We are incredibly lucky to be able to hear the details of her journey through the VAD process from her son Rowan and two members of the NSW Health VAD team involved in her care.

This is an invaluable opportunity to understand the VAD process from different perspectives and hear first-hand from those who supported Felicia’s decision to pursue VAD, through to the end of her life.

Her son Rowan Huppert supported his mother as her illness progressed and witnessed the sense of relief she felt knowing that VAD was an option. He will give us a sense of the complex emotions Felicia and her family experienced during the application process and the lead-up to her death.

We will also hear from VAD doctor, Associate Professor Patrick Bolton who assessed Felicia’s eligibility for VAD and administered the medication which allowed her to die quickly and peacefully, and from Care Navigator, Warren Stewart who has supported numerous dying people through their VAD applications and worked with Felicia’s family to guide them through the various steps in the process.

The Zoom webinar will be held on Wednesday 9 April from 5-6.30pm
