The Completed Life Initiative 3rd Annual Faith Sommerfield Memorial Lecture

Faith Sommerfield Memorial Lecture

The Faith Sommerfield Memorial Lecture was established in partnership with the Columbia University
School of Professional Studies Program in Bioethics in early 2023 to commemorate the life of Faith
Sommerfield, the late founder of the Completed Life Initiative. This yearly lecture series aims to advance
critical conversations around end-of-life care, personal autonomy, and the right to die with dignity.
This year’s third annual lecture will be held on Thursday, September 18 at 6:15pm at the Italian Academy,
Columbia University. The discussion will be centered around grief and the challenges of accessing
end-of-life care in the United States. Our featured speaker is Jennifer Senior, a Pulitzer Prize-winning
journalist and bestselling author known for her writing on grief. The discussion will be moderated by Dr.
Arthur Caplan, Ph.D., an internationally renowned author on bioethics and the founding head of the
Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
