With a special Dail committee being formed to legislate on Assisted Deaths, Janie Lazar of End of Life Ireland argues that the time has come for Ireland to face up to this emotive issue, which she says is a fundamental human right.

A special Committee has been determined by the Justice Committee as the most appropriate route to progress towards legislation for Voluntary Assisted Dying. As a single issue time-bound committee, with access to international medical/legal expertise and research carried out over the last 20 plus years, professionals in Ireland are well placed to draft policy for legislation which protects everyone.
