Delaware is now the 12thĀ jurisdiction in the United States to authorize MAID. Both legislative chambers passed H.B. 140 by June 25, 2024. However, the Bill is in limbo as it has not yet been sent to the Governor for signature. In part this is because he has publicly declared in the past that he does not support a change in the law.
One reason for the delay in sending might be to wait until Governor Carney completes his final term in office later this year. We will post an update as and when it happens
The Ron Silverio/Heather Block End of Life Options Law includes most ātraditionalā MAID requirements like residency and a 15-day waiting period. But it follows CO HI WA NM in authorizing nurses who have met clinical practice requirements to provide MAID. It also follows CA CO WA in requiring transparency for entities opting out. Like DC, it prohibits clinicians from having a practice ālimited to or primarily comprisedā of MAID.
