US: Four new states introduce MAID

Kentucky, New Jersey, Maryland, and Colorado all introduced Death with Dignity legislation last week. This brings the total number of active medical aid in dying bills to an astounding 20!

Bills across the country have made big progress including successful committee votes in Virginia, scheduled public hearings in New Hampshire and Maryland, and committee referrals in Florida and Tennessee.

Legislators have filed a bill that would make Colorado the third state in the nation to eliminate their law’s residency requirement and welcome qualified non-residents to participate in medical aid in dying. Additionally, the amendment would also add Advance Practice Registered Nurses as prescribers and reduce the waiting period from 15 days to 48 hours.
