US Legislative Update – April 25, 2025

Across the country, states are making powerful strides toward passing Death with Dignity laws—and in some cases, we’re just one signature away! While we’re not quite to the finish line, these past few weeks have proved that states, and more importantly, the communities within them, can make meaningful progress both big and small, in a short amount of time. Here’s the latest:

Assembly and Senate Votes

  • Delaware is one step away from passing Death with Dignity! The Ron Silverio/Heather Block Delaware End of Life Options Act (HB140) passed the Senate with an 11-8 vote! The bill is now headed to Governor Matt Meyer’s desk.

With over 5,000 letters sent from advocates to the Delaware Senators who helped pass HB140, we know they’re feeling the love! If you haven’t already, please send the 18 courageous bill sponsors a letter thanking them for passing Death with Dignity out of the Senate.

  • Nevada’s aid-in-dying bill, AB346, passed the Assembly with a 23-19 vote. The bill now moves to the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. A huge thank you to the advocates who’ve already sent over 350 letters urging their lawmakers to act, and more letters can only help!

Nevadans: send a letter to the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services and tell them to vote AB346 out of committee today!

Upcoming Floor Vote

Public Hearings

  • SB403, an amendment to the California End of Life Option Act that would eliminate the sunset clause and make the law permanent, passed the Senate Health Committee. Its next stop is the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, April 29. We’re monitoring this amendment closely and will continue to update as the bill moves forward.
