Zürich Canton (Switzerland) to vote twice on assisted suicide issue

August 20, 2009:   GenevaLunch.com  –  an online Community Swiss Newspaper  –  reports on the coincidence of two popular initiatives in the Canton of Zürich, both dealing with the legal option (in Switzerland) for assisted suicide. It looks as if the two contradict each other, but both are started by UDC, the Swiss right-wing party lobbying against the current practice in Zürich.

One initiative asks for a complete ban of all abetting and assisting suicide. The second calls for a vote to allow assistance only to people who have been resident in the canton for at least one year.
