DIGNITAS – To live with dignity – To die with dignity
A Swiss association for freedom of choice and self-determination at the end of life, with members around the world.
About the society.
DIGNITAS is a non-profit membership association founded in Switzerland in 1998. It works for everyone's freedom of choice and self-determination in life and at the end of life, including the right to decide the time and manner of one's own death.
It advises members and non-members on end-of-life questions, provides advance directives that are legally effective under Swiss law, and works on preventing suicide attempts. Within Swiss law, and alongside the public health system, it offers physician-supported accompanied suicide to members in Switzerland and abroad who meet its medical requirements.
It also takes on legal and political work in Switzerland and internationally. Its stated aim is to become unnecessary, once health systems everywhere offer these choices themselves.
