The Story
The movement for dignity, choice and autonomy at the end of life has never been stronger.
Assisted dying - known as Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD), Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) or similar - is now lawful for terminally ill people in an increasing number of jurisdictions around the world.
Decades of advocacy, courage and persistence have transformed what was once dismissed as unthinkable into a democratically established legal right for millions of people. We have momentum. We have evidence. And increasingly, we have the law on our side.
But this is no time for complacency. So many of our friends are still without assisted dying laws, and those that we have are under constant threat.
Powerful and well-resourced opponents continue to challenge assisted dying through political campaigns, strategic litigation and organised misinformation. Religious institutions, particularly the Catholic Church and its international networks, continue to exert considerable political and financial minority influence in efforts to restrict or undermine laws democratically enacted by their communities.
The WFRtDS Quarterly has been created to strengthen and unite our movement into the future as we address these issues.
With more than 60 affiliates across 30+ countries, we have an extraordinary global network. The Quarterly gives us a shared platform to exchange knowledge, expose misinformation, celebrate victories, learn from one another and strengthen our collective voice
The Quarterly helps ensure that we remain informed, connected, and confident ready to defend every hard-won right while continuing to expand dignity and choice at the end of life around the world.
Wherever we are on the journey, we are stronger when we share what we know, support one another, and move forward together.
