Queensland: VAD Half Year Report

The Review Board (independent oversight body) reviews each completed voluntary assisted dying request to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Act. This first annual report covers the first six months of voluntary assisted dying activity in Queensland (from 1 January 2023-30 June 2023).

In the first six months of the Act, 591 people commenced the process, of which 562 people were assessed as eligible. There were 338 people were supplied with a voluntary assisted dying substance and 245 people died from administration of a voluntary assisted dying substance.

Among those seeking VAD, the median age was 73, 56% of people were male, 49% of people lived in regional, rural or remote parts of the state and 78% of people had a cancer diagnosis.
