More about Plataforma Dignidad
In 2024, two lawyers and a lawyer who had helped people access euthanasia in Peru and Colombia joined forces to create a joint project that would capitalize on the advances, alliances, and agendas in the region surrounding a dignified death. Thus was born the Dignity Platform, a Latin American and interdisciplinary network dedicated to promoting the right to die with dignity.
In Latin America, the right to decide how, when, and where to die is far from a reality. Our healthcare systems marginalize autonomy when making end-of-life decisions, and our laws still largely criminalize medical assistance in dying. Our experiences are also ignored by the narratives of the Global North. At Plataforma Dignidad, we seek to combat these injustices: we believe that a dignified death is a human right, not a privilege.
Dignity Platform was born as a collective call to chart our own paths. We work to connect experiences, share knowledge, and forge alliances with the goal of transforming the way we understand the epilogue of our lives. Only in this way can we ensure that each person decides how to navigate that end, according to their desires, values, and beliefs.
Today, the Dignity Platform brings together more than 60 people from eight Latin American countries, committed to advancing the right to die with dignity in the region
