The World Federation of Right To Die Societies biennial conference in Tokyo in the fall of 2004 will see the presentation of the first Marilyn Seguin Memorial Award. The Board of Directors, at their meeting in Luxembourg in October 2003 discussed possible recipients and have decided on a very worthy individual who will be receiving this inaugural presentation in honor of Marilyn Seguin.
Marilyn was well known to many in the world Federation of RTD Societies for her tireless efforts to advance the mission of Dying With Dignity in Canada and worldwide. She was involved with the World Federation from its inception and she was the founder of the Canadian Dying With Dignity organization, headquartered in Toronto.
The recipient of the award exemplifies Marilyn’s dedication to the Right -To-Die movement. The award will be made during the 2004 World Federation meeting which is sponsored by the Japanese Society for Dying With Dignity and will be held in Tokyo September 30th to October 3rd of 2004.
This award was established with money from the Marilyn Seguin Memorial Fund received in December of 2002. Marilyn died from her illnesses in September of 1999. Her dying was remarkable in that she selected the time, the manner and the location of that event. This was in keeping with her long held views that one should have such choice and control over this most important time of life. We hope that many friends of Marilyn will be in attendance to honor both her and the worthy recipient of this award.
