Bill about legalizing euthanasia rejected in Madrid

June 15th 2004 the Spanish Parliament rejected a Bill to legalize voluntary euthanasia presented by two small groups, Esquerra Nacionalista de Cartalunya (an independent nacinalistic Catalan democratic group which rules in Catalonia in coalition with the socialists) and the recycled ex-communist party Izquieda Unida.

The Minister of Health of the ruling PSOE said that the Bill wasn´t formally correct, that society was currently not focused on that problem, that it requires consensus, and so the debate on the subject would be postponed for a year.
