The second reading on Canada’s bill C-384 to permit assisted suicide under strict conditions has resulted in a rejection, Wednesday April 21, 2010. The margin was 228 – 59.
A major argument against was the concern to go down the “slippery slope”, in which severely disabled or dying people could be euthanized without their consent. Canadian Broadcasting reports further on the defeat in this article
Comment by webmaster: is this not again a proof that clarity about definitions is of the utmost importance? In countries where euthanasia is allowed (Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands) the consent of the person concerned is the primary condition.
