Colombia: Senate approves 52 articles

The green light for medically assisted death legislation is in sight.

In what appears to be the end of a sixteen-year struggle to legalize medically assisted death, the Colombian Senate has approved 52 articles in one recent session, leaving only 10 scheduled to be discussed in the next. The articles pertain to the autonomy of the individual the need for a swift and impartial process, availability, accessibility, non-discrimination, and access to information. Patients may retract their decision at any time.
