On Thursday the 22th of July, Colombian judges decided that Colombians who ask for euthanasia are no longer required to be a victim of a terminal illness.
Since 1997, due to a sentence of the High Tribunal [the Constitutional Court of Colombia], euthanasia could be practised in Colombia when four conditions were met:
- terminal illnesses
- a state of intense pain
- a voluntarily done request
- performance by a specialist
By the judgement of July 22, the first criterium is no longer required.
