Maine Death with Dignity Act enacted and signed

On Wednesday the 12th of June, Governor Janet Mills signed the LD 1313, the Death with Dignity Act into law. With the Governor’s signature, Maine became the 9th jurisdiction (and 8th state) to allow people with a terminal illness to die the way they want: without suffering, in peace, and with dignity.

One week earlier, on the 5th of June 2019, the Maine Senate enacted the bill.  On Thursday the 30th of May 2019, the Maine Senate approved (with 19 votes to 16) the Maine Death with Dignity Act. Two days before, on May 28, the House of Representatives already approved this act (with 72 votes to 68). The bill was introduced on March 18, 2019.
