Sunday 9th November 2025 – 2pm for 2.30pm start

Yeats Building, Hyde Bridge, Sligo Town, F91 DVY4

End of Life Ireland (EOLI) with North West Humanists invite you to join us to remember those in Ireland and across the world who have given their last years, months and weeks advocating for a kinder death.

Marie Fleming, Vicky Phelan and Gaynor French all supported the right to die with dignity, here in Ireland at a time of their choosing. Speakers include Marie’s life partner Tom Curran, chair of EOLI Janie Lazar, Carmel Geoghan, Founder of Dementia Ireland. Justin McKenna Director of End of Life Ireland, will share a reflection that is both personal and professional, offering insight drawn from his own experience and leadership in the field.

Living with a terminal or incurable and life limiting illness takes courage. As does facing death itself, for the dying person and those close to them.

As Ireland and an increasing number of countries across the world move towards the introduction of Voluntary Assisted Dying, we honour the courage of all whose suffering becomes unbearable. We honour those who, in the absence of legislation take mattersinto their own hands. Some of whom travel abroad, all too often alone for an assisted death to protect their loved ones who would risk imprisonment for supporting them and who have to cope with the trauma of repressed grief. This gathering honours the courage of all impacted by the absence of legislation.

Gill Bell, Convenor NWH will open the meeting at 2.30pm in The Yeats

Building closing with a candlelight vigil walk to Queen Maeve Square.
