La Voix du Nord (FR) reported (read article in French here) the passing of Marie Humbert.In a clinic in the night of 4 on 5 August 2018, Marie Humbert died. In 2003, Marie Humbert, together with a doctor, helped her 22-year-old severely handicapped son to die at his request. As a result, she was known as the French pioneer of euthanasia in her country and beyond. Marie Humbert was dismissed from legal proceedings. The case led to legislation which allowed doctors to restrict or stop ‘unnecessary, disproportionate or otherwise artificially extended treatment of life’, known as the Leonetti Law. She reached the age of 63 years.
