The Key/Parnell Bill was defeated after a long and sometimes emotional debate in South Australia’s Upper House. But it is still alive and will return next year.
Labor MP Steph Key has introduced an identical Bill in the Lower House.
“A number of members have expressed their support for the concept but for a variety of reasons they are not able to support this Bill tonight,” Greens MLC Mark Parnell said. “Of course we are disappointed the Bill didn’t pass the Upper House last night, but this by no means is the end of the debate.”
Mr Parnell said he was disappointed the Bill had been defeated “on the voices”, but said it could return to the Upper House next year if adequately amended in the Lower House.
