The Society for Old Age Rational Suicide (established on International Human Rights Day December 10, 2009, in Brighton, UK) today published its website. The Society campaigns for a change of law so that very elderly, mentally competent individuals, who are suffering unbearably (not “terminally”) … can have a dignified death, as an ultimate human right.
The Society will limit its main activities to the Brighton and Hove area during 2010. In February a telephone poll in the area showed encouraging results. SOARS will do all it can to support present campaigns by UK Dignity in Dying and Scottish Friends At The End for a change in the law, to permit doctor-assisted suicide for those who are terminally ill.
