Florida Democratic representative Daryl Campbell introduced legislation that would allow medically assisted suicide in Florida. HB 561 would allow adults who are terminally ill to access lethal drugs from medical professionals. According to the bill, three repeated requests to a doctor must be made before the procedure could be executed and doctors would have to present patients with alternatives treatment options.
According to a 2013 Pew Research poll, 62% of Americans believe a person suffering intense pain due to terminal illness has a moral right to commit suicide. Currently, medically assisted suicide is prohibited in Florida.
