Vatican sets ultimatum for Belgian Brothers of Charity

The Vatican announced an ultimatum for the Belgian Brothers of Charity to abandom their nota on euthanasia. Last may, the Brothers of Charity stated that from that moment on it allows euthanasia to take place in their psychiatric hospitals (see an earlier newsitem here).

The Vatican strongly opposes the attitude of the Belgian Brothers of Charity towards euthanasia. After executing research, the Congregation of religion concludes that the note is incompatible with the doctrine of the Church. The Brothers of Charity get one month to confirm their agreement with the doctrine. The note on euthanasia on psychiatric patients who are not terminally ill has to be revised.

If they don’t implement the measures, the Brothers of Charity could lose their christian identity and its boardmembers could be expelled from the order.
