Monday morning the 20th of May, the treatment of Vincent had stopped, just as the diet and fluid administration. But a few hours later a judge in Paris ruled that the 42-year-old Frenchman Vincent Lambert, who had been in the vegetative state for 11 years, was not yet allowed to die.
In April, the highest French court ruled that Lambert’s treatment could be stopped. Lambert’s parents appealed against that ruling. They were found right by the judge, who believes that the hospital should await a UN investigation.
After a major motorcycle accident in 2008, Vincent Lambert is completely paralyzed and has a “minimal state of consciousness.” The question of whether his treatment may be discontinued, splits French society and its own family.
