The Virginia Senate narrowly passed bill SB-280 permitting terminally ill adult patients to seek medically-assisted death. The bill passed with 21 in favour to 9 against. The bill allows healthcare providers to “prescribe a self-administered controlled substance to a qualifying patient for the purpose of ending the qualifying patient’s life, upon request of the patient.”
The guidelines clearly state that a patient must be given information on alternative care, be predicted to die within six months and be requesting MAID voluntarily and without outside influence.
