On 21 June 2023, the Austrian Society for a Humane End of Life (ÖGHL) together with DIGNITAS submitted a complaint to the Austrian Constitutional Court claiming that the current assisted suicide law, which came into force on January 1st 2022, is riddled with high bureaucratic hurdles and numerous unclear provisions. As the current law came into existence following constitutional complaints lodged in 2019, the Society hopes that this will help to improve the law, removing these barriers.
