North Carolina

Legal situation

In short

In May 2021, a MAiD bill was introduced in North Carolina. The expectation is that in early 2023 a bipartisan bill will be introduced. The realization of a bill in North Carolina would be special because it would then be the first state where MAID is available that is not blue (Democrats) but red (Republicans).

The bill proposes that an applicant must first undertake a hospice evaluation before being eligible, but then need only one attending physician to approve the MAID application, rather than the usual second as the Oregon model requires.
