The federal government is considering whether to delay its plans to extend access to MAID to those suffering from a mental condition. The decision was already delayed from March 2023 for one year due to public debate, now the deadline of March 2024 is being reconsidered. Despite legalizing MAID in 2016, the Quebec Superior Court found the original criteria limiting access to adults with a foreseeable natural death to be unconstitutional. Senators argue that excluding those with a mental disorder is a violation of their rights.
