Final Exit Network
A US nonprofit offering free education and support to people who want choice in how they die, wherever they live in the country.
About the society.
Final Exit Network is a national nonprofit that educates and supports people who want choice at the end of life. Its services are free, and its volunteers answer questions about end-of-life options for people in every US state.
Its Exit Guide Program is for mentally competent adults facing intolerable medical circumstances, including people who have no access to medical aid in dying because their state has no law or their condition is not terminal. Each application goes through a medical review. The programme offers information and, if wanted, a compassionate presence; it does not supply the means or give physical help.
It grew out of the Hemlock Society's Caring Friends programme, with Derek Humphry and Faye Girsh among its founders in 2004. It also promotes dementia advance directives, runs monthly member forums, a speakers bureau and a right-to-die news service, and sponsors research.
