Our Austrian Member Organization ÖGHL asked 1000 Austrians (16-69 years, 2 waves) about their attitude to aid in dying (Sterbehilfe) through the opinion research institute INTEGRAL. The majority welcomes the Court decision to assisted dying in the event of a serious illness, and almost one in two would use assisted dying themselves.
80% of the people approve the recent decision of the Constitutional Court that the ban on “assisted suicide” violates the right to self-determination. Which means that assisted dying in Austria is generally permitted from 1.1.2022. A clear approval that is almost the same across Germany in all education, income levels and age groups.
